Friendship

Its been awhile since I have even felt like writing but I had to do a 15 minute presentation on reading for Relief Society meeting. Being inspired by Mrs. Bean, I decided I wanted to do a poetry model patterned after a poem by Kahlil Gibran in " The Prophet". I used the first line of his poem on friendship as my inspiration. This is only the second draft.

And a youth said, speak to us
of Friendship
And I answered, smiling
A friend takes your hand and warms it
between her own.

She will smile at you sitting on
a fine leather burgundy couch.

You are satisfied in this one friendship,
this one closeness.

With one whom you love
as a sister
As if she shared a room
borrowed your clothes,
read your books,
listened to your joy.

She alone remains as all
others take flight;
birds leaving for winter.
